The woods around Redding Wick feel properly tucked away from the main drag out of Amersham, which is half the appeal. The terrain is gentle enough for families with younger kids, though it's not a destination with facilities or information boards - bring a map or rely on your phone's compass sense. Expect to spend an hour or two wandering; it's the kind of place where you loop back without covering vast distance. The trees themselves aren't ancient or dramatic, so if you're chasing ancient woodland experiences, you might be disappointed. But if you want somewhere quiet to stretch your legs between Amersham and the Chilterns proper, it works well.

Stay at Lights Camera Glamping just 3.5 miles away and you've got genuine forest walks on your doorstep without needing to drive far. Hill Farm, five miles south, offers similar convenience. Neither requires advance booking necessarily, though it's sensible to check. Visit after rain and the whole place smells proper alive. Summer weekends can draw the local dog-walking crowd, so aim for weekday visits if you want real peace.
