Meads Water Garden

The water gardens at Meads sit just outside Amersham, a proper tonic if you're staying at any of the local parks - Lights Camera Glamping or Whelpley Hill are practically on the doorstep. This is a working garden centred around a series of linked ponds and water features, the sort of place where you actually see what's going on rather than just walk round snapping photos.

You're looking at mature plantings around the water edges, aquatic plants doing their thing, and if you time it right, proper wildlife activity. Dragonflies, water birds, the lot. It's not enormous - you can walk the circuit in under an hour - but it's the kind of spot that rewards a slower pace. Sit on a bench for ten minutes and you'll see more than rushing about.

This appeals most to serious gardeners and anyone interested in water garden design. Young kids might get bored quickly unless they're the type to actually watch wildlife rather than demand ice cream. If you've got someone in your group obsessed with ponds and aquatics, they'll be in their element.

Access details are a bit thin on the ground online, so ringing ahead from your campsite is sensible - opening hours and admission charges aren't guaranteed. It works well as a morning stop before heading into Amersham town centre proper, or as part of a broader gardens tour if you're staying in the area for a week. Not a headline attraction, but worthwhile if gardening's your thing.
