The main draw is the bird life - kingfishers, cormorants, the lot - so bring binoculars if ornithology is your thing. Fishing is permitted in certain areas if you've got a licence. There's no visitor centre or café, which keeps it low-key and unspoiled, though it does mean coming prepared. Free access as far as I can tell, and you can roll up any time. It works well as a half-day addition to a park holiday at Covert Farm or Steepleton Lodge, both within striking distance. Worth an afternoon walk if you're based nearby in Northamptonshire, but don't rearrange your itinerary to get here.
