Queen's Gardens

There's a decent stretch of woodland and open grassland just outside Redhill that locals seem to know about but rarely talk up. Queen's Gardens is exactly what it says - some proper Surrey countryside managed as a nature reserve, with paths cutting through trees and across meadows depending on the season. The walk itself is straightforward, nothing too demanding, and in spring the wildflowers can actually stop you in your tracks. Bring binoculars if you're keen on birds; the reserve attracts decent numbers, though you'll need patience and an early start to spot anything memorable. The whole loop takes about an hour if you're not dawdling, maybe two if you stop to watch things. It's the sort of place families with younger kids will manage fine, though there's not much to actually do once you've walked it. Older children who already like nature might find it engaging; those after playground thrills will be bored within ten minutes. Winter's probably the best time to visit for clarity and fewer midges, though the grass gets muddy. If you're staying at Milberry Green Meadows up the road, this is a reasonable morning outing to stretch your legs without leaving the car for more than half an hour. The admission situation is unclear from here, so ring ahead before you go. It's not a destination in itself, but as a bonus activity during a Surrey park holiday, it does the job.
