Queen Elizabeth’s 60 Years Crown

A gallery dedicated to the late Queen's platinum jubilee might sound like one of those worthy but forgettable municipal projects. This one, though, actually has something to offer if you're passing through Larne. The exhibition focuses on Elizabeth II's 60 years on the throne - a proper record of what was a remarkable reign, with photographs, memorabilia, and displays that track her relationships with various prime ministers and world leaders.

You're looking at an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you linger. It's the kind of place that works well for people with a genuine interest in royal history, or older visitors who remember the coronation. Younger kids will probably find it slow going unless they're particularly engaged by monarchy and politics.

The real value is as a complementary stop when you're already in the area exploring what Mid and East Antrim has to offer. If you're camping at Down to Earth Wild Camping nearby, it's certainly worth a wet afternoon visit - the admission is reasonable and it's nowhere near as heavy-handed as some heritage attractions can be. The local context matters here too: Northern Ireland's relationship with the monarchy has always been complicated, so the exhibition carries a bit more weight than you might expect from the title.

Check opening hours before you go. Location-wise, it's close enough to Larne that you won't waste petrol getting there, but don't plan your entire trip around it. One for the royal history buffs and those with time to fill.
