Quad Challenge

The Quad Challenge is a four-peaked hill walk in Carmarthenshire that's become something of a local rite of passage. You're tackling Pen y Ghent, Whernside, Ingleborough, and Pen-y-Hol in a single outing - not all on the same day, mind, but as a proper challenge that's drawn hill walkers and fell runners to the area for years.

It's honestly more of a self-set challenge than an official circuit, which means there's no visitor centre or marked route to follow. You'll need decent maps, proper gear, and ideally experience on rough ground. The hills themselves offer cracking views across South Wales and into the Brecon Beacons, though the weather can turn quickly so don't expect a gentle afternoon stroll.

Walkers and outdoor enthusiasts will get the most from this - families with young kids should probably look elsewhere. It's a full day's commitment, sometimes two depending on fitness and conditions. Free to attempt, though you'll need to sort your own transport and navigation.

If you're based at River View Touring Park just down the way, or one of the other parks around Llandyfan or further out at Black Ewe Glamping, the Quad Challenge works as a brilliant focal point for an active week. Swansea's close enough for rest days and supplies, making this a genuine option if you've rented a static or pitch-up near here and fancy something with proper teeth to it.
