Prince of Wales Dock

The dock basin at Maryport sits right on the Solway Firth, and Prince of Wales Dock is where you get proper views across the water towards Scotland. The promenade around it is decent for a stroll, and if the kids need to burn energy, there's enough space to let them loose without worrying they'll disappear. History buffs might appreciate that Maryport itself has Roman fort heritage - this dock represents a later industrial chapter.

There's no admission fee and no set hours - it's public waterfront access. You're looking at thirty minutes to an hour to properly take it in, though you could easily combine it with exploring Maryport's town centre. The Maritime Museum is close by if you want more substance beyond just looking at water.

It won't blow your mind, but it's a genuine local spot where you see how people actually live here, not a manicured tourist attraction. Worth the detour if you're in the area, less essential if you're planning your route around it.
