The building itself is pleasant enough, though don't expect a major attraction - this is local history done properly, which means authenticity over spectacle.

The real pull here is the location. Christ Church sits practically on top of the old Roman fort at Alauna, and standing outside gives you proper context for what you've just seen inside. Maryport's harbour is still working, still alive, which matters - this isn't a sanitised heritage experience.
