Pride Park Stadium

Derby County's home ground sits bang in the middle of the city, impossible to miss if you're driving through. The stadium itself is modern and fairly soulless from the outside - all glass and steel, built in the late 90s - but it's the matchday atmosphere that matters here, not the architecture. On game days the place absolutely buzzes, with fans pouring in from across the East Midlands and beyond. If you're not catching a match, there's little reason to linger long.

Football fans are the obvious audience, though the stadium occasionally hosts other events - concerts, conferences, that sort of thing. Worth checking what's on if you're timing a visit around the area. The tour itself (if available) covers the usual ground: dressing rooms, dugout, pitch-side walk. Nothing you won't see at half a dozen other stadiums, but proper atmospheric if you're a County fan. Allow a couple of hours maximum if you're doing a stadium tour.

If you're staying at Hill Farm Camping & Caravan Park just four miles away, Pride Park is an easy diversion during a longer Derbyshire break. The city centre is walkable from the stadium, so you could combine it with a wander through Derby proper - decent food scene, some decent museums, bit of industrial heritage. Rain or shine, families with football-mad kids will get the most from this. Everyone else should probably save their time for Chatsworth or the Peak District, both within striking distance.
