Prestwood Nature Reserve

The reserve sits on the edge of Marlow, a proper woodland habitat that doesn't announce itself loudly but rewards those who actually wander through. You get beech and oak trees, open glades, and the sort of quiet that makes you realise how little of it there is these days. Walking trails criss-cross the place - nothing that'll leave you gasping, just gentle routes through the trees where you might spot woodpeckers or catch sight of deer if you're lucky enough and patient enough.

It's the kind of spot that works for families who want their kids to burn energy without it feeling like a hard slog, or for anyone after a proper walk without the drama of getting somewhere famous. Bring binoculars if you're into birds. Most people allow a couple of hours, maybe three if you're thorough about it. No facilities to speak of from what I can gather, so take a packed lunch if you're planning to stay a while.

The reserve slots nicely into a Buckinghamshire camping holiday - Bella Vista Camping and Home Farm are both within easy driving distance, so you could base yourself there and use this as one of several walking destinations in the area. It won't blow your mind, and it's certainly not worth a special trip on its own, but paired with Marlow's riverside appeal and the other green spaces around here, it's a solid addition to a countryside break. Free to access as reserves usually are, which is the only bit we can say with confidence.
