The promenade at Prestwick stretches along the coast with that particular Scottish grey-blue quality to the light that makes everything look properly dramatic. It functions as a nature reserve, so there's genuine wildlife interest. Waders work the mud flats depending on the season, and the salt marsh vegetation is precisely the sort of thing that gets serious birdwatchers genuinely excited. Most visitors are here for the walk rather than the spectacle - it's honest, unshowy terrain. No dramatic cliffs or golden sands to Instagram, just good firm ground, decent paths, and the sea doing its thing.

Walkers will get the most from this. An hour's walk is entirely manageable, though you can easily stretch it to two if the light's right or the tide brings something interesting ashore. Families with younger children might find it a bit flat for extended visits - there's no playground drama or rock pools to obsess over.

It sits roughly five miles from Haven Craig Tara, making it a decent morning outing if you're based at the holiday park. Go on a clear day when the visibility's proper - the murky afternoons feel rather too much like work. Free to access, naturally. Best visited outside school holidays if you want any sense of peace.
