Belleisle & Seafield Golf Courses

Two 18-hole courses running through what was once a proper estate, right on the edge of South Ayrshire with decent views toward the coast. Belleisle is the older course - tree-lined fairways, tight in places, the sort of layout that punishes a wayward drive but rewards accuracy. Seafield plays longer and more open, especially on the back nine where the wind becomes a real factor.

These courses aren't flashy. They're honest parkland golf, the kind where you walk away knowing whether you played well or didn't. Neither course is brutally difficult, which means regular golfers will enjoy them more than absolute beginners might. The greens are decent but not tournament-standard, and you'll share the space with plenty of locals who know them intimately.

Golfers with families staying at Craig Tara Holiday Park - just over two miles away - can play a round and be back for lunch without drama. It's not a destination course that alone justifies a trip, but it's solid if you're in the area for a week and fancy eighteen holes on day three. Expect to pay standard rates for Scottish courses, though exact pricing changes seasonally.

Allowing three and a half hours per round is realistic. Morning rounds tend to move quicker. Late spring through early autumn is when the courses play best, though winter rounds are possible if you don't mind grey skies and occasional rain - this is South Ayrshire, after all.
