Prescott Speed Hill Climb

The hill itself is a proper kilometre of tarmac rising steeply through Worcestershire countryside, and on event days you'll see everything from vintage Bugattis to modern supercars attacking it flat out. Prescott Speed Hill Climb has been hosting these sprints since 1938, which means there's genuine history baked into the experience - this isn't some corporate theme park invention. You stand trackside as drivers attempt to set the fastest time over that short, sharp distance, and the noise, the smell of fuel, the absolute commitment from the drivers is genuinely thrilling.

It's absolutely made for petrolheads and families who fancy a day out with some proper automotive drama. Kids under about ten might find it a touch intense - loud engines, minimal seating - but older children who care about cars will be absorbed. You can't really wander round for hours; a day's event gives you four or five hours of racing, which is about right before you need a break.

Check the website for the event calendar first, because you can only visit on competition days. Admission prices vary by event. It's about three miles from Tewkesbury, making it a decent outing from Winchcombe Camping or Tewkesbury Abbey Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite if you're based locally. Combine it with the Cotswolds' proper market towns - Tewkesbury's got a solid abbey and plenty of independent shops - and you've got a well-rounded weekend.
