Potter Hill

Potter Hill doesn't look like much from the road - just a modest rise outside Newark that most drivers blast past without a second glance. But walk to the top and you get proper views across the Nottinghamshire countryside, the kind of spot where you can actually see how the landscape falls away in all directions.

It's a short walk, nothing strenuous, which makes it ideal if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks like Wigwam Holidays Orchard Stables or Milestone Caravan Park and fancy stretching your legs without committing to a full day's hiking. Kids won't complain about the distance, and on a clear day it's worth the twenty minutes or so of gentle climbing just for a moment of peace and perspective.

There's not much infrastructure up there - no café, no gift shop, no interpretation boards telling you what you're looking at. You get what you came for: height, air, a break from the flatness. The walk itself is the thing, really. It's the sort of place that works best outside school holidays when you might actually have it to yourself.

If you're camping or glamping in the area - and there's no shortage of options within five miles - Potter Hill is a decent half-hour detour. Not a destination in itself, but a proper little punctuation mark on a countryside weekend. Bring a flask, bring a friend, bring nothing else.
