Portlethen Shore/Harbour/Creek

The shoreline at Portlethen is one of those places that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick visit. You're looking at a working harbour area mixed with rocky outcrops and a narrow creek that cuts back into the landscape - it's got character in spades, and it feels genuinely local rather than polished for tourists.

The water's the main draw here. On a clear day the light catches the rocks in a way that makes you understand why photographers keep coming back. The creek itself is tidal, so timing matters if you want to explore properly - low tide opens up more of the shore, while high water pushes right up against the walls and changes the whole feel of the place.

You'll see working fishing activity on and off, which adds to the authenticity. It's not a big production like some coastal spots - there's no visitor centre, no car park attendant, no ice cream van. Just you, the water, and whatever the weather decides to throw at you. Walkers get a good stretch here, though the ground's uneven enough that proper shoes are non-negotiable. Families with young children might find it a bit too exposed and rocky for extended play.

From Kincorth, it's straightforward enough to reach. If you're based at Deeside Holiday Park for a longer stay, this makes a decent half-day excursion - pack binoculars if you're interested in birds, which are plentiful. Allow two to three hours to see it properly without rushing.
