Loirston Loch

The loch sits quietly on the southern edge of Aberdeen, a proper freshwater lake that catches most visitors off guard when they realise it's right there on the city's doorstep. You get decent views across the water, and there's a walking path that loops around - nothing strenuous, just a gentle mile or so that takes about 20 minutes at a normal pace. Birdwatchers do well here; the place attracts grebes, coots, and the occasional heron if you're patient.

It's the kind of spot where locals come to clear their heads rather than somewhere that'll keep you occupied all afternoon. Free to visit, naturally. If you're staying at Deeside Holiday Park, which is a short drive south near Kincorth, you could easily pop over for a lunchtime walk without it eating into your day. Families won't find much to keep children entertained beyond "look, ducks," so it works best for walkers and anyone after a bit of peace and fresh air.

The real value is that it's accessible and asks nothing of you - no car park fees, no opening times to worry about. Spring and early autumn are the best times when you're not dodging midges. Worth 45 minutes if you're in the area; don't make a special trip into Aberdeen just for this.
