Porter's Plantation

Dense beech and oak canopy filters the light into green-gold pools at this working woodland just outside Broadway. Porter's Plantation stretches across the lower slopes of the Cotswold escarpment, offering proper countryside walking without the tourist crowds that pack the village itself. The tracks wind through mixed woodland that changes character with the seasons - bluebells in spring, rich amber tones come autumn.

Families with older children who fancy a good walk will find plenty here, though pushchair-pushing parents might struggle with the uneven forest paths. Dog walkers absolutely love the place - there's enough space for proper off-lead exploring without worrying about livestock. The main trail takes about an hour at a steady pace, with several shorter loops if you fancy something easier.

What makes this spot particularly useful is its proximity to Broadway Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite and the various holiday parks scattered around Broadway. After a day tramping around the tourist hotspots, it's lovely to have somewhere quiet to stretch your legs. The plantation connects to longer footpaths heading up towards Dover's Hill if you're feeling ambitious, making it a good starting point for more serious Cotswold walking.
