Walkers and boat enthusiasts will get the most from it. If you're staying at The Gather or Tarbert Holiday Park nearby, Portavadie makes an easy morning trip - about 20 minutes from either park. The waterfront walk is manageable, though there's not masses to see beyond the marina itself. Allow a couple of hours if you're having lunch, less if you're just stretching your legs.

It works best as part of a wider Kintyre exploration rather than a destination in its own right. The appeal is understated - there's something calming about a functioning marina where locals actually use the boats rather than treat them as status symbols.
