Dubh Chreag

The walk up Dubh Chreag from Tarbert takes about two hours return, and it's one of those hills that feels properly rewarding without being a full day commitment. It's exactly the sort of walk that justifies booking a week in Argyll rather than just passing through. Port Ban Holiday Park, a bit further out, also puts you within reasonable striking distance if you're after something more rural.

Timing-wise, spring through early autumn works best. Winter brings darkness early, and midges in summer can be relentless.
