The pier at Felixstowe gives you a proper close-up of one of Britain's busiest container ports - and it's genuinely hypnotic to watch. Massive cranes swing cargo on and off ships, lorries rumble past, and the whole thing feels like organised chaos from a vantage point where you can actually see the operation unfold. It's free to wander out here and absorb the industrial theatre of it all.

You're standing at the working edge of global trade, basically. Not everyone's cup of tea - and it's definitely not a traditional seaside pier with arcades and candyfloss - but if your kids are into machines, logistics, or just big moving things, they'll be riveted. Even jaded teenagers find it oddly compelling. The walk itself takes twenty minutes or so depending on how long you linger, and there's decent sea air and a genuine sense of being somewhere real rather than touristy.

Timing matters. Go late afternoon when light's decent for photos and the port's still active. Windy days can be bracing - bring a jacket. Suffolk Sands Holiday Park and Felixstowe Beach Holiday Park are both within walking distance, so you could slot this in as a quick excursion between beach time and caravan meals.
