Polholm Rig

The walk up Polholm Rig takes you to a proper Scottish viewpoint without the Highlands drama. It's a straightforward ridge near Sanquhar - nothing technical, just a good steady climb that rewards you with views across the Dumfries and Galloway valleys. On a clear day you can see right across the Southern Uplands, which is worth the effort even if you're not a serious fell walker.

Allow two hours there and back if you're taking your time. No facilities on the hill itself, so bring water and something to eat. Best visited outside the wettest months when the ground gets boggy. The ridge is free to access - it's open moorland.
