Point 1048

The walk up to Point 1048 is a straightforward slog from Kinlochleven, gaining height steadily through moorland that shifts from boggy underfoot to proper mountain terrain as you climb. There's no path marked on most maps, which either appeals to you or it doesn't - if you like knowing exactly where you're going, this one might frustrate. The summit itself is unremarkable in the way Scottish peaks often are: a cairn, some rocks, views that stretch across the grey-brown hills toward Ben Nevis on a clear day, and honestly, a fair bit of nothing if the cloud rolls in.

It's a decent half-day walk from any of the three parks near Kinlochleven - Glen Nevis Caravan & Camping is closest at just over five miles away, and it's the obvious base if you're tackling this one. Budget three to four hours return depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Families with younger legs might find it tiring rather than fun; it's better suited to walkers comfortable on rough ground without a defined path. The approach from Kinlochleven itself takes you through the old industrial heart of the village, which adds a bit of unexpected context to the climb.

Worth doing if you're already in the area and have a spare afternoon. Not worth planning a trip around. The real draws are Ben Nevis itself or the Three Sisters further south - this sits somewhere between obvious choice and pleasant filler on a week's walking itinerary.
