Plockton Church

The white-harled church sits right on Plockton's waterfront, impossible to miss as you wander through this impossibly pretty village. It's a modest Highland kirk - nothing grand, nothing that'll take your breath away architecturally - but that's rather the point. This is a working parish church, still the spiritual heart of a small community that's been here for centuries.

Inside, it's all high ceilings and pale light streaming through tall windows. The views across the loch are simply there, part of the fabric of worship. You can spend ten minutes or half an hour depending on whether you just pop in or sit for a proper look. There's no charge, and locals are generally friendly if you're respectful.

Families won't find it thrilling - kids get restless in empty churches - but if you're staying at Reraig Caravan & Camping Skye nearby and fancy a gentle potter round Plockton itself, the church is worth a quick visit. What makes it special is context. The village is the real draw, with its palm trees and that legendary light that has painters returning year after year. The church is simply part of that picture.

Go on a clear day if you can. The loch reflects everything differently depending on weather, and you'll understand why people keep coming back to this corner of the Highlands. It's three and a half miles from Kyle of Lochalsh, so easily done as a stop rather than a destination in itself.
