Play area

The play area at this nature reserve near Skegness is a genuine breath of fresh air if you're camping locally. It's not some tarmac-and-plastic affair - the whole point is letting kids run about in an actual natural setting, which makes a proper change from the seafront crowds just down the road.

You get woodland paths winding through the site, open grassland where children can burn off energy without you watching them like a hawk on every piece of equipment, and genuine wildlife to spot if you're lucky. Kingfishers, various waterfowl if there's water nearby - the sort of thing that keeps older kids genuinely interested rather than bored stiff after ten minutes.

If you're staying at Riverside Caravan Park or Grange Farm Campsite, this is close enough for a half-day outing. Bring binoculars if anyone in your group is into birdwatching, and proper shoes - the ground gets boggy depending on season. It's the sort of place where children aged 5 to 12 will actually engage with nature rather than just pass through it.

The main draw is freedom. No admission fees that we're aware of, no time limits, no queuing for slides. Just open space and things growing. After a day at Skegness Pier or Fantasy Island, this offers a genuine reset - quieter, slower, genuinely restorative. Worth the short drive from any of the nearby parks.
