Pittsog's Wood

Pittsog's Wood is a proper woodland walk on Swansea's doorstep - the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss. It's a decent stretch of ancient forest with decent paths running through it, good for blowing the cobwebs out after a day at the caravan park.

The wood itself isn't dramatic. There are no waterfalls or viewpoints that'll make you gasp, just solid, quiet woodland - oaks and beeches mostly, with enough undergrowth to feel like you're actually in nature rather than on a manicured trail. You'll spot birds if you're patient, and the whole thing has that calm, slightly damp smell of a working forest. It's the kind of place where you can stretch your legs for an hour without thinking too hard about it.

Families with kids aged seven or up will get something from it, though there's not much to keep under-sevens entertained beyond "look, a stick". Walkers after a proper ramble will find decent loops, and if you're interested in old-growth woodland, it's worth a look. The forest is free to access and you can pretty much come and go as you please.

Timing-wise, allow 45 minutes to two hours depending on how many detours you take. Go on a weekday morning if you can - you'll have the place to yourself. It sits well with a caravan holiday at Pitton Cross or Hillend Camping Park, just a short drive from Swansea town centre. Not a destination in itself, but exactly what you need when the weather turns decent and you want to get outside without faffing about.
