Pisgah Hill

The climb up Pisgah Hill is mercifully short - you're looking at maybe twenty minutes from the car park if you're not dawdling. It's not dramatic stuff, nothing like the Highlands, but that's rather the point. The Scottish Lowlands roll out beneath you once you're up there, with decent views across towards the Borders if the weather's playing ball. On a clear day you can see a fair stretch of countryside. On a drizzly one, which is likely, you'll get atmosphere instead.

Walkers will find it straightforward enough for a quick leg-stretch, and families with reasonably mobile kids won't struggle with it. There's no scrambling, no exposure - just a steady uphill walk and a modest reward. If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Halleaths, Cressfield, or Hoddom Castle - it's the sort of thing you'd do between breakfast and lunch without really planning around it. Not a full day's activity, but a proper use of an hour or so.

Lockerbie's the nearest town if you need supplies or lunch, though there's nothing fancy up there on the hill itself. Free to access, obviously - it's a hill. Best visited when the midges aren't at their worst and visibility is decent. Worth it? Yes, if you're in the area and want a gentle walk with decent views. Don't expect wilderness or solitude. This is accessible countryside for people who want fresh air without faff.
