Pirate Adventure Golf, just outside Rye, leans into the theme with actual pirate theming - and does it without looking like a tired seaside attraction from 1987. You're whacking balls around a course designed to feel vaguely like you're plundering treasure, with various obstacles and a genuine effort made to the décor. It's the sort of place where Dad suddenly decides he's a pro golfer and gets far too invested in his score, while the kids just want to whack the ball as hard as possible. Allow about ninety minutes, maybe two hours if you're thorough or the queue's long. Bring cash - I'd assume it's paid entry, though worth checking opening hours before you head over.

The real winner here is it works as a break in a park-based holiday without demanding much. If you're staying at Herons Park Campsite (4.5 miles away) or Romney Meadows (5.9 miles), this slots in nicely on an afternoon when the weather's decent but everyone's knackered from walking. Families with children aged six and upwards will get the most mileage out of it. Much younger and they'll struggle with the putting, though they'll enjoy the pirate setting. Teenagers and adults? It depends entirely on your tolerance for light-hearted competition. Honestly, if you're the type who gets wound up at mini-golf, skip it. If you're game for a laugh, it's worth the short drive from Rye.
