Perk Hill

The walk up Perk Hill is short, sharp, and entirely worth the effort. From Perth, you're looking at maybe twenty minutes to the trailhead, then a proper climb that'll take most people forty-five minutes to an hour depending on fitness. The reward is a view across the Tay Valley that genuinely stops you mid-stride - you can see right down to the river snaking through the flatlands below, with the Sidlaws rising up on the far bank. On a clear day the visibility stretches for miles.

It's the kind of walk that suits families with older kids or anyone who fancies a bit of elevation gain without committing to a full day out. The paths are reasonably well-trodden and while there are steep sections, nothing here requires scrambling gear. You'll want proper boots though - boggy in places, especially after rain.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Greenhill Farm Glamping is closest at just over a mile away - this makes an excellent morning excursion before breakfast gets cold. The summit itself has space enough to sit and eat a packed lunch without feeling crowded, even on weekends. Combine it with a wander around Perth's town centre afterwards and you've got a solid half-day sorted. Most people allow two to two-and-a-half hours total, including a breather at the top.
