You won't find rows of gleaming steel tanks visible from the road - Pentrich Brewing Co. keeps things understated near Alfreton. That's part of the appeal. This is a proper working brewery where the focus stays on what's in the glass, not the gift shop theatrics.

The operation runs tastings and tours for visitors keen to see how they're making their craft beers. It's the sort of place where you'll actually talk to the brewers rather than shuffle past them on a conveyor-belt experience. They've got several of their own brews on tap - lagers, IPAs, the usual suspects done with obvious care. The taproom itself is functional rather than Instagram-bait, which honestly suits a brewery in Derbyshire.

Walkers and proper ale drinkers will get the most from a visit. If you're camped nearby - Golden Valley Caravan and Camping Park is less than two miles away, or Riddings Wood slightly further - it's worth an afternoon call-in rather than a full day's outing. You're looking at two to three hours maximum including a tour and a couple of pints. Phone ahead to check they're running tours on your day, as opening times and tour schedules aren't straightforward on their website.

It's not a massive operation, so don't expect the scale of some bigger Midlands breweries. What you get is genuine, local, and worth the short drive from Alfreton if you're staying in the area.
