Penny Hill

The walk up Penny Hill is less dramatic summit and more gentle woodland amble, to be honest. You're looking at a modest peak in Bracknell Forest that rewards effort more with a sense of achievement than sweeping vistas - though the wooded surroundings are pleasant enough if you catch them on a decent day.

It's the kind of spot locals use for a proper leg-stretch rather than a destination in itself. The terrain is manageable for families with older kids and anyone who wants a straightforward woodland walk without scrambling. The forest canopy keeps things cool even when the weather's warm, which is something.

You won't find crowds here. That's either brilliant or boring depending on what you're after. If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Warfield Park is just 2.5 miles away, or Scotlands House Campsite at 3.6 miles if you want something with higher ratings - Penny Hill works nicely as a morning walk to stretch your legs before breakfast. Allow an hour there and back, depending on your pace and how long you linger in the trees.

There's no visitor infrastructure that I'm aware of, so bring water and don't expect a café at the top. It's free, naturally, and the Bracknell area has enough other attractions to keep a week-long park holiday interesting. Penny Hill itself? It's a decent half-hour diversion, nothing more.
