Pen Ystrad

Rolling Welsh countryside stretches in all directions from this modest summit, though calling Pen Ystrad a peak is rather generous - it's more of a gentle hill with big ideas. Located just outside Carmarthen, this grassy rise offers proper views across Carmarthenshire without the lung-busting climb you'd expect from higher Welsh mountains.

Families will find it manageable, though toddlers might struggle with the uneven ground near the top. The walk up takes about 45 minutes from the nearest parking spot, following farm tracks that can get muddy after rain.
