Pembrokeshire Sunflowers

A working farm near Newport that plants a vast sunflower field each summer, turning a corner of rural Pembrokeshire into something that wouldn't look out of place in southern France. It's genuinely striking when you come round the bend and see thousands of them in full bloom, their heads all tracking the sun. The farm opens the field to visitors during peak flowering season, typically July and August, and it's become a proper draw for photographers and families wanting an afternoon out without mucking about with theme parks.

You can walk through the rows, take photos, pick up a bunch to take home - the whole thing costs a few quid entry. There's a farm shop selling flowers, plants, and local bits. Bring a hat. Bring water. The ground's uneven in places and there's no shade to speak of, so it's not ideal if you're expecting a leisurely stroll. Kids will have a blast for an hour, maybe ninety minutes, particularly if they're into Instagram-style spots. Older children who like botany or are keen photographers will get more from it.

If you're camping nearby - Llwyngwair Manor or Cardigan Bay Holiday Park are close enough - it makes a cracking half-day addition to a Pembrokeshire trip. Don't expect Monet, and don't go if rain's forecast (it gets boggy), but on a clear summer day it's well worth the short drive from Newport. Plan it for late morning to catch the best light.
