Pawsome Fun Paddock

The Pawsome Fun Paddock sits just outside Crewkerne and is exactly what it sounds like - a working space where you can get hands-on with animals. We took the kids expecting a quick 20-minute stop and ended up staying nearly two hours. They've got alpacas, rabbits, and other creatures that children can actually interact with rather than just gawp at from behind a fence.

It's the kind of place where a four-year-old will remember the name of a particular goat for weeks afterwards. The setup is pretty casual and unfussy - no fancy visitor centre or overpriced gift shop, just paddocks and animals. Admission details are a bit vague online, so ring ahead to confirm opening times and whether you need to book, but it's clearly affordable enough that families visit regularly.

For a rainy afternoon or if your kids are getting bored indoors, this works well. It's close to several decent glamping options if you're staying in the area - Esme's Escape is under two miles away if you want something plush, or Wytch Wood Camping gets you a bit closer to the Somerset border. Swallowfield Glamping and Dorset Forest Garden Glamping are also within striking distance if you're planning a proper week exploring the region.

Truth is, it's not a destination in itself. But if you're based nearby with little ones, it's a solid half-day activity. Real value if you time it right.
