Paul's Plantation

A proper woodland walk just outside Launceston, Paul's Plantation is what happens when someone plants a forest with purpose. You're wandering through mature trees - mostly conifers - on paths that feel genuinely quiet, which is rarer than you'd think in Cornwall. The air smells like pine and earth, and on a grey day it's absolutely atmospheric.

What you actually do here is walk. There's no visitor centre, no café, no facilities - it's just the forest and you. Allow an hour if you're taking it easy, less if you're on a mission. The paths are manageable for families with older kids, but littler ones might struggle with the uneven ground and lack of obvious "attractions". This is one for people who actually like trees and quiet rather than those hunting for views or photo ops.

It's free to visit, which is the main reason to bother. The nearest town, Launceston, is close enough to combine with a wider day out - you could do the forest in the morning and explore the castle town afterwards. If you're staying at Trewithen Farm Glamping or Ekopod just down the road, it's an easy leg-stretch option. Nothing flashy, nothing polished, but honest woodland that works if you're after some proper peace and green space.
