Passage Cove (sand & shingle) tidal area

Low tide is the whole point at Passage Cove. The beach itself is fairly modest - a strip of sand and shingle that frankly doesn't look like much when the water's high - but get the timing right and you've got something properly interesting on your hands. The tidal flats open up to reveal a whole different landscape, exposing rocks and pools that are well worth poking about in if you've got kids who enjoy that sort of thing.

It's the kind of spot you'd visit as part of a wider coastal walk rather than as a destination in itself. The location near Cornwall means it slots well into a longer day exploring the coastline, and it's convenient enough if you're based at somewhere like The Secret Garden Glamping just five miles away. The shingle can be sharp underfoot, so proper shoes are a good shout rather than flip-flops.

Historically there's something here - the cove has that working fishing village feel - but you're really coming for the rock pools and the exposed geology when the tide drops. Time your visit around low tide tables (the local visitor centre can advise) or you'll just see a fairly ordinary stretch of water. Worth a stop if you're doing a coastal walk, less worth a special journey on its own. The beach itself fills up quickly on summer weekends, so aim for quieter months or early morning if possible.
