Parson's Wood

Parson's Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Bradford-on-Avon, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's not a manicured country estate or a themed attraction - just trees, paths, and the sort of peace you're after when you've had enough of tourist crowds.

The woodland itself is straightforward enough. You walk through mixed woodland, spot some decent old growth, and if the light's right you get dappled shade that makes you forget you're in Wiltshire for a bit. The main loop probably takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on how often you stop to look at things. It's gentle terrain, so fine for families with older kids, though it's not a destination if your children need playgrounds or ice cream vans.

Who gets the most from it? Walkers, absolutely. People who want a quick woodland ramble before heading into Bradford-on-Avon itself for lunch. History types might enjoy it too - ancient woodland often tells a story if you know how to read it.

If you're staying at Widbrook Barns or Marsh Farm Caravan Site, this is genuinely convenient - close enough for a half-morning walk without driving somewhere proper. Combine it with a proper explore of Bradford-on-Avon town, which has actual things to see: the bridge, the Saxon church, proper cafes.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I could find, so go with sensible shoes and bring water. Free to access, which is the way it should be.
