Parking Tain

The old parking area at Tain is hardly the sort of place that'll set your heart racing, but there's something oddly interesting about how it reveals the town's relationship with transport and commerce over the years. It's basically a functional bit of Highland infrastructure - the kind of thing locals use without thinking twice, but which tells you something real about how Tain actually works rather than how it's packaged for visitors.

You won't spend long here. This isn't a destination in itself. What it does offer is a quick stop if you're passing through Tain proper, perhaps grabbing supplies or having a look round the town centre itself. The spot gives you a sense of scale - how busy Tain gets, what the town caters to, that sort of thing.

For a caravan holiday in the area, it's less about the parking itself and more about where it sits. You're well positioned between Dornoch Firth Caravan Park and Dornoch Caravan & Camping Park if you're basing yourself locally. Tain's got decent shops and facilities, so it's worth knowing where to leave the car if you're staying at either site and fancying a proper walk round town.

Historically minded types might find it worth a moment's thought - what gets preserved, what gets forgotten - but honestly, spend your time on Tain's medieval streets and the Glenmorangie distillery instead. This is more of a 'oh, that's how the place functions' moment than a proper attraction.
