The Fens around March don't exactly shout drama, but Parkfield nature reserve quietly rewards those who bother to stop and look properly. It's a working wetland - reed beds, open water, and rough grassland where the light does strange things depending on the time of day. Bring binoculars if you're into birds; the reserve attracts waders, wildfowl, and the occasional rarity that gets local birdwatchers twitchy. The walk itself is straightforward, nothing taxing. You're looking at an hour or so to get a proper feel for it without rushing.

This is not a destination for people who need chocolate-box views or climbing frames for the kids. History buffs and casual ramblers will find it peaceful; families with young children might find it a bit samey after thirty minutes. The appeal is genuinely quiet - no crowds, no facilities noise, just the wind through reeds and whatever birds decide to show up that day.

Stay at Fenland Camping and Caravan Park, just a mile away, and you've got a proper base for exploring this corner of the Fens. Fields End Water is even closer at 2.2 miles if you fancy glamping pods instead of a tent. Both give you easy access to Parkfield as part of a broader wander around the wetlands. It's the kind of reserve that slots into a larger trip rather than being the sole reason to visit - but if you're in March anyway, absolutely worth the detour.
