Park Wood

The forest floor here is proper spongy underfoot - moss and needles from decades of growth - and the trees are tall enough that you lose the sky pretty quickly once you're in. Park Wood is a straightforward woodland walk near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, the sort of place locals use without fuss rather than somewhere that gets crowded with tourists. It's free to access and there's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which means you get the forest as it actually is: quiet, damp in patches, and genuinely peaceful.

The paths wind through mixed woodland - conifers mixed with broadleaves - and while it's not dramatic or particularly rare, it does the job well if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks like Anglesey Holiday Pods or Taihirion Farm Campsite and want a proper walk without driving far. Allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on how much you like ambling. The trails aren't marked particularly well, so it pays to know where you're going or take a map.

Families with older kids will find it fine; younger ones might get restless if they're after something more interactive. It's ideal for a morning walk before heading to Anglesey's better-known beaches or the Menai Strait views. The main appeal is simplicity - no admission fees, no crowds, just woodland. It's the kind of place that works because it doesn't try to be anything more than it is.
