The walk up Park Law near Otterburn rewards you with proper moorland views that stretch across Northumberland's border country. It's not a towering peak - more of a solid hill - but the climb through heather and rough grassland feels properly wild, especially when the weather turns moody.

You'll get decent 360-degree views from the top if visibility is on your side. On a clear day you can see across the Pennines. The surrounding moorland is relentlessly open - no trees to soften the landscape, just endless rolling hills. It's the kind of place where you feel genuinely remote despite being accessible by car.

This is squarely walker territory. Families with younger kids might find it a slog; the path isn't technical but it's moorland rough underfoot. Allow two hours for a steady round trip, longer if you're pottering about photographing the views. There's a car park at the base which helps.

Park Law works perfectly as part of a wider Northumberland walking holiday. If you're camping at Border Forest Holiday Park just down the road, it's an easy half-day outing that doesn't demand much planning. The moorland here is genuinely atmospheric - proper hiking rather than a manicured stroll. Go early if you can; autumn mornings up here can be spectacular, though the wind's often fierce enough to make you work for those views. Best avoided in heavy mist unless you enjoy navigation practice.
