Park Hill

The walk up Park Hill rewards you with proper views across Dunfermline and beyond - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can see right over to the Forth. It's a straightforward climb from the town, steep in places, and takes about twenty minutes if you're not dawdling.

What you're after here is the panorama rather than any particular summit feature. There's a bench at the top where locals sit with their flasks, and honestly, that's the appeal. The hill itself is grassy, well-trodden, free to access, and works brilliantly if you're camped at Meadow View Glamping or Fossoway Cabins nearby - both are within walking distance if you fancy combining it with a longer ramble.

Families with primary-school-age kids will manage it fine, though toddlers might find the steeper sections tedious. Walkers will do it as a warm-up rather than a proper hike. History buffs should note Dunfermline's significance - ancient royal connections and all that - but Park Hill itself is more about the exercise and the vantage point than anything archaeological.

Go early morning in summer to beat the heat, or late afternoon when the light softens. Twenty minutes of your time, tops. It's not going to be the highlight of your Fife holiday, but it's a solid way to get your bearings and stretch your legs if you're based in or visiting Dunfermline.
