The Palm Court at Compton Acres is one of those gardens that makes you stop and actually look at plants instead of just walking past them. It's a proper Mediterranean-style space tucked away near Poole, with exotic palms and specimen trees arranged so you feel transported - not quite abroad, but definitely not Dorset either.

You're looking at roughly an hour here if you're taking it in properly, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type to sit and sketch. The planting is immaculate and there's genuine horticulture on show, not just Instagram backdrops. History buffs will appreciate that Compton Acres itself dates back to the early 1900s, and the Palm Court sits within those broader gardens. It's free to wander, which is rare enough that it deserves mentioning.

Families with younger kids might find it a touch dull - there's no playground energy, no maze to get lost in. But if your lot are genuinely keen on plants or you need an hour of actual peace, it works brilliantly. Older visitors and keen gardeners absolutely get the most from it.

If you're based at Haven Rockley Park or any of the other holiday parks within five or so miles of Poole, this slots in nicely on a wandering afternoon. Pair it with the town itself - decent enough for ice cream and a walk along the waterfront - rather than trying to build an entire day around it. Go on a weekday morning if you can. Weekends bring crowds who don't really appreciate what they're looking at.
