Palladian Bridge

The Palladian Bridge at Prior Park in Bath is one of those structures that stops you mid-walk. It's an 18th-century stone bridge with a classical temple folly perched bang in the middle of it - a mad idea that somehow works brilliantly. You can walk across it, peer into the little arches beneath, and spend a good while just admiring the proportions and the way it frames the water below.

Historians and architecture types will lose their minds here. It's proper Georgian grandeur, and the park setting near Bradford-on-Avon makes it feel more genuine than you'd expect. You won't need more than 45 minutes unless you're the sort who photographs every stone, though wandering the wider grounds adds another hour easily.

Access can be tricky - the bridge sits within the grounds of Prior Park Landscape Garden, which does charge for entry and has limited opening hours. Worth checking ahead before dragging yourself out. It's not a standalone stop; you're really coming for the whole estate experience.

If you're based at Campwell Farm or Stowford Manor Farm nearby, it's close enough for an afternoon trip without being a rushed job. The walk from Bradford-on-Avon itself is pleasant but proper steep uphill both ways. Not ideal with small children or anyone nursing a hangover, to be honest. The bridge photographs beautifully in afternoon light, which matters if you're the Instagram type.
