The interior still bears traces of its retail past, which sounds twee but actually works in its favour. The painted frontage is what catches your eye first; it's bright and deliberately unpolished, the kind of thing that makes you think someone's had a proper laugh designing it.

Inside, you're looking at contemporary painting, prints, and mixed media from artists across the northeast. It's not large - you'll work through it in twenty minutes, thirty if you're chatty with whoever's minding the place. The rotating exhibitions mean it's worth revisiting if you're camping nearby, though I won't pretend it's a destination unto itself.

This works best for art types and anyone bored stiff by the usual heritage attractions that clutter the Highlands. Kids under twelve will get restless unless they're the sort who actually care about paintings. Locals use it as a proper cultural outlet rather than a tourist draw, which is refreshing.

Free to wander in, as far as I can tell. It's a short walk from Inverurie town centre, so combine it with an actual lunch rather than making it a special trip. If you're based at Hillhead Caravan Park just up the road, it's worth an afternoon poke around, but don't reroute your holiday for it.
