Overhall Grove

The woodland at Overhall Grove near Huntingdon is proper quiet - the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a small forest patch, nothing flashy, but genuinely pleasant for a woodland walk if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby. The trees are dense enough to feel like you've stepped away from the Cambridgeshire flatlands, even though you're only a few miles east of town.

This works best for families wanting a gentle hour's ramble, or anyone who just fancies stretching their legs in something greener than the surrounding countryside. It's free to access and requires minimal planning - drop in whenever. Walkers won't find dramatic terrain, but there's something oddly restorative about moving through woodland when everything else round here is so open and exposed.

The real value is proximity to the caravan parks. If you're based at Cuckoo Fen or Quiet Waters - both excellent stops - Overhall Grove is a natural addon for an afternoon. It's close enough that you won't waste half your holiday driving, yet far enough that it feels like a proper outing rather than a stroll round the campsite. Crystal Lakes is a bit further out, but still within reach for an hour's wander.

Don't expect signposting or facilities. This isn't a managed visitor attraction with benches and interpretation boards. What you get is genuine woodland, relatively undisturbed, which is increasingly rare near Huntingdon. Bring decent footwear after rain - the ground can be boggy.
