Over Craig

The walk up Over Craig from Blairgowrie is properly rewarding without being brutal. You're looking at maybe an hour and a half round trip, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. The summit sits at just over 400 metres, which means the views across Perthshire are genuinely good without the serious altitude commitment.

What you get at the end is panoramic stuff - roll your eyes across the Tay valley, spot Ben Lomond on a clear day, and watch the landscape ripple away towards the Highlands. The path itself is straightforward woodland walking for much of it, then opens out as you climb. It's one of those spots where the effort-to-reward ratio works nicely in your favour.

Walkers will get the most from this. Kids can do it if they're used to hills, but younger ones might find it a slog. History enthusiasts won't find much up there except the views themselves. If you're staying at Glenshee Glamping just down the road, this makes a cracking morning or afternoon outing without needing to venture far. Blairgowrie itself is a solid little Highland town with decent cafes if you want to refuel after.

The site is free to access and there's car parking at the trailhead. Go early on weekends if you can - it's popular enough that summer afternoons can get a bit chocker. Weather changes fast up here, so check conditions before setting out.
