Outh Hill

The walk up Outh Hill takes about twenty minutes from Dunfermline, and on a clear day the effort pays off properly. You're standing at 260 metres looking out across the Forth towards Edinburgh - the city skyline sits there like a postcard on the horizon, and if the light's right, you can pick out the castle. The hill itself is modest, nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. It's the sort of place locals know and visitors miss.

Walkers will get the most from this one, particularly those based at Meadow View Glamping just down the road - it's close enough for an evening stroll without feeling like a trek. Families with primary-school-age kids will manage it fine, though the path gets a bit muddy after rain and there's nothing fancy at the top - no cafe, no interpretive boards, just views and the sound of the Forth estuary below.

The real charm is how it slots into a broader Fife walking day. Do this early, then head to one of the larger parks nearby like Fossoway Cabins and plan something more substantial for the afternoon. The peak itself is free - there's no gate or fee - and you can knock it off in under an hour including the walk back. Go when the weather's settled. On a dreich Scottish day, the views disappear and you're left standing on a windy hilltop wondering why you bothered.
