Otter Sculpture

There's a rather striking bronze otter sculpture positioned in Ellon that stops you dead in your tracks. It's the sort of piece that makes you actually look - not just glance past on your phone - because the sculptor has captured something genuinely lifelike in the creature's posture and expression. The work sits as a gallery piece in the town, very much part of Ellon's public art landscape.

It's a quick stop rather than a full afternoon's engagement, but that's rather the point. Art-minded visitors and photographers will appreciate the craftsmanship, whilst kids find something memorable to come back to. Dog walkers heading through Ellon on their way elsewhere invariably pause here. The bronze has weathered beautifully over time, which only adds to its character.

You won't need more than ten minutes unless you're seriously into sculpture - it's one of those spots where you grab a photo, read any plaque if there is one, and move on. Free to view, naturally. If you're staying at Ythan Valley Campsite just four miles away, it's a simple detour into town and worth combining with a proper walk or a look round Ellon's other offerings. Late afternoon light works best for photographs. Scottish bronze work has a reputation for substance over flash, and this otter absolutely fits that bill. Not a destination in itself, but absolutely worth your attention if you're in the area.
