St Olga's Orthodox Parish Church sits on the outskirts of Peterborough like something from a Russian postcard - all Byzantine curves and gilded crosses against the Fenland flatness. It's genuinely striking, the sort of building that makes you do a double-take on an ordinary residential street.

Inside, it's properly traditional Orthodox - icons fill the walls, incense hangs in the air, and the whole space feels contemplative rather than showy. You don't need to be Russian or Orthodox to appreciate the craftsmanship and the peace of it. The architecture alone is worth twenty minutes of your time, and if services are on, you can observe from the back.

This works brilliantly as a short stop if you're basing yourself at Ferry Meadows or Nene Outdoors, both within a couple of miles. Neither of those campsites will burn you with activities, so having Peterborough's cathedral and museums within reach matters - and St Olga's gives you another decent cultural detour without fighting crowds.

Admission details are thin on the ground, so ring ahead before you visit. It's not a tourist attraction in the conventional sense - it's a working church - so respect that when you go. Best visited mid-morning on a weekday if you want to avoid service times and have a proper look around. The contrast with the rest of Peterborough's religious architecture is what makes it genuinely interesting.
