Orchard Hill

The walk up Orchard Hill from Newton Stewart takes you through proper Dumfries and Galloway countryside - rolling fields, scattered trees, the kind of landscape that looks modest until you're actually standing on top of it. The summit itself isn't dramatic, but it's high enough to give you genuine views across the Lowlands. On a clear day you can see for miles. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top, so bring water and something to eat if you're making an afternoon of it. It combines well with exploring the wider Galloway hills - you're in proper walking country here.
